A typical HEPA filter in use.
That’s a good question and I’m glad you asked. HEPA is a generic term for a type of air cleaner that has become the most popular and most recommended since the 1950′s. HEPA filters consist of really small mat fibers. Particles stick to these fibers by a variety of ways and are removed from the air. A high-quality HEPA filter can achieve an efficiency of 99.7% for particles 0.3 microns or larger in diameter. However this rating is measured on the filter itself. Due to air that gets around the filter in poorly sealed applications, HEPA filters that you see purchased at the store often only achieve a 50% efficiency. Not only this, but dust, mites, mold, and mildew get caught up in the filter. In a very short period of time, if the humidity is not kept at a minimum, mold will often proliferate in the filters. Because of this pre-filters and main filters must be replaced often and can be quite costly. Further more the filters are heavy, thick, and quite dense. The systems require a large blower to force air through them and is quite loud when turned on for maximum effectiveness.
The real solution is with EMF. The term was coined during a US government sponsered germ warfare project that later evolved into creating 100% clean rooms. Today you will find these systems in hospitals, laboratorys, and clean rooms for manufacturing processes where the air must be particle and germ free. The unique process of an Enhanced Media Filtration (EMF) system creates a high energy field within the air cleaner that raises the efficiency of the filter to 99.99% at 0.3 microns particle size. The unique and revolutionary benefit of this process is that it creates a germ killing zone within the unit which actually captures and breaks down the DNA of bacteria, mold, fungi and viruses, not only trapping them but killing them once and for all. The system is listed as a Class II medical device and certified tests have shown a 98-100% bacteria kill, 94-100% mold and fungi kill, and an impressive 99-100% virus kill! In the age of bio-hazards, diseases, the flu, and the seemingly endless common cold, this is certainly an added bonus. And in addition, the filters are less dense and require less maintenance. This means less noise and less money out of your pocket. Reliable Water Systems is one of very few companies that offers these top of the line EMF systems. And believe it or not, they are quite affordable!
